David Braley Health Sciences Centre
McMaster University

David Braley Health Sciences Centre is a 192,000-square-foot, 6-storey building located at the corner of Main and Bay streets right across from city hall in downtown Hamilton.

Home to several academic divisions of McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, it contains a large family health clinic and also serves as headquarters for the City of Hamilton’s Public Health Services.

The building design extends the ground plane and public realm up through the building via a cascading series of public spaces that leads the visitor to the top of the building as well as providing views of the surrounding city.

The LEED Gold Certified structure integrates art, nature and contemporary design. Common throughout the public system is a material pallet of stone, wood, fountains and planting features that links these elevated spaces back to the original ground plane entry and connects to the idea of Hamilton as a city situated between the lake and the escarpment surrounded by nature.
